A New Cable show to check out...

At our family Christmas party, my sister in-law Becky told me about a new cable show that they just loved and sharded it with me.  It's about these 2 guys from upstate New York, that move to the county and try to make it on their own.  It's called "The Beekman Boys".  It has only taken me this long to actually check it out and I am absolutely hooked.  It's so funny, interesting, and funny that I wanted to share it with all of you.  It is on Tuesday nights on Planet Green, and actually season 2 started last night.  Check it out, and get lost in the fun as well.

Flu Shots

Most of you know by now that I work at a Retirement Home, so I would just like to go on record and let you know that Flu shots are not all they're cracked up to be.

Lately I've been working alot of hours helping out in various areas where needed.  So as of last Wednesday we were informed that the flu (lower GI..., Yuck!) was going around and that they were going to close down the dinning room, and have all the residents (approx. 185) stay in their rooms (5 days) until we could get a handle on the situation.  HA!

First off, that started at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, canceling Happy Hour, and went down hill from there.  Mind you they have their schedules set like a clock, and you better not mess around with them, as there will be hell to pay.  Some felt "Hey why cancel Happy Hour, the liquor will just kill the germs anyways!"  (good point).  Secondly, how can you possibly ask that many people to stay in their rooms for X amount of days?  That's like Lock down at San Quinton, CAN'T BE DONE!   Just imagine the movie "Dawn of the Dead", they just kept coming out, and we would have to round them up like cattle in a cattle drive (think of all those people with walkers, wheel chairs and cains, coming at you...)and send them back, all the while explaining over and over the reasons why.   Now this was like like "Night Mare on Elm Street".

While this was taking place, the staff was busily swabbing the decks with every disinfectant you could possibly find, with cloves and masks on.  Oh, yeah, the other nightmare,  ALL meals would have to be delivered to their rooms in Styrofoam, until further notice...  OMG, that was a whole other battle in itself, since every resident had to be called and asked what they wanted for the next 3 meals everyday.  (Do you know how hard it is to talk to a half deaf person, or better yet, Altzheimer person?) Again, can't do it, CRAZY, and Cold Food to boot.  You'd have to serve and run for your life for fear of the out come.  Were talking "Mutiny on the Bounty" here, and it's starting to get ugly.  Pretty soon they'll be like those teacher protestors in Wisconsin at the Capital.

Let's keep in minds that while all this is going on, staff is getting sick also (Yes, me too, got a flu shot...).

So let's see, as of yesterday, we were at 42 (32 Residents, 10 staffers), and no one else sick since 5 AM Sunday morning.  Hopefully we will be in the clear, and back to normal (Happy Hour and Bingo are scheduled for tomorrow...) by Tuesday.

I don't know how many "Hail Marries" have been said lately, but keep praying for the folks they really need them.  Stay healthy.

Scales

I have a theory, that if your trying to loose weight, stay off the scales, and just guesstimate your weight loss.  Save yourself the shocking depression you'll be in when you step on it and it hasn't moved, even though your pants are getting looser.  I think I moved that damn thing to every possible flat surface that I could find, and still no change.  Oh, maybe it's broken, hmmmm.  And so you know, I'm up to 3.5 minutes on the STEP 600 now.  It's all just baby steps you know. Ha!

PayOff's

Here's how the day is going so far.  Yesterday, we paid off a credit card, and today I called Roto Rooter.  Need I say more?

Excercise update

Since I'm trying out a new "Resolution" to get fit and all, yesterday I decided to try out my own dietary plan known as "Suz~DeTox Solution".  Here it is in the nut shell; I will only eat 3 bowls of High Fiber Cereal along with loads of water to flush out all the impurities (I'm very hopeful this will happen, if you know what I mean).  NO wine!  So, okay yesterday went fine.  I didn't get really hungry until about 10:00 PM, so I caved in for 1/2 of a green Banana (YUCK!), but it did the trick.  And today is going good so far.  I've had coffee, and tea (both made with water), and of course water, NO wine!  Now, do I see this as a long term way of eating, H*&$  NO!  NO Wine!  But the first 3 days of a diet are always the worst, so I'm taking it one day at a time here.  So maybe after a week, I will switch over to calorie counting (1200 Cal. per day), and see how that goes.  Oh yes, I also did some exercises too, which consisted of snow shoveling; carried in 3 arm fulls of firewood  (which I had to trudge through the snow to get to); then managed 1.5 minutes on the Step 600 machine.  Boy do I feel...(like crap).

In theory this all sounds good, but why can't I just live my life the way I want to and be Happy doing it (Yes,Wine!)?

Resolutions - continued...

Ok already, so I've decided to make a resolution to loose some weight.  For example, we have one of those awesome "Step 600" steppers, that we got free from a neighbor who was having a garage sale (they must have seen me and felt sorry for Ric, so gave it to him for free in hopes I'd get motivated and do something with it...).  Guess what, I did something with it!  I moved it from the utility room to our kind-of living room, by the fire place to boot.  Boy that took alot out of me too.

The way I see it, with the fire place going, and me on that thing, I will be able to burn off some BIG calories, if not burn myself up at the same time.  I'll go test it out right now and let you know how it goes.

Testing: 1 2 3...

OMG, I just did 2:00 minutes.  Huff, huff, huff.  Buns of steel baby.   I can feel the burn already.  Huff, huff, now I need a nap.

I'll keep you posted on my progress (if any).
