Painting

FINALLY!  Today we finished the last touches on the deck.   The rain unfortunately delayed the finishing project.  But now, it's done and we move onto something else.

Hmm, maybe painting the outside of the House?

The New Job

I offically started my new job this weekend.  What a fun place to work.  The residents and staff are the sweetest people, and where else can you work and play corn hole at the same time.  Although it's only weekends right now, I'm truly hopeful I can get more hours as time goes by.

Coming Home

After more than 10 days in China, Nix called last night to let us know that he is on his way home.  Guess he had a very interesting time, and got to view lots of amazing sites.  Thank goodness we have SKYPE (free), so we were able to keep in touch with each other.  They are 12 hrs. ahead of us, so that was always a challenge time wise.  It will be good to have him back home, and can hardly wait to see what his next adventure will be (He leaves for a 7 day Cruise on Saturday...).  What a life.

Long Distance is the next best thing to being there...

Can I just say that "SKYPE" (free), is like the coolest thing since sliced bread.  Last night the whole family crowded around the computer (even the dogs) to chat with Uncle Nix all the way in China.  I know some of you have experienced this, but it was our first "Long Distance ~ Over Seas" skype (free) chat, and it was so exciting.

The last time I remember doing that was in the Mid 1970's when my brother David would call from Germany, while he was stationed there.  We only had 3 phones in the house, so everyone would scramble through the house to get to one, just so they could hear his voice and be apart of the conversation.

With skype (free), Nix was able to see all of us at the same time.  It was like being one of the Jetson's.  Wow, technology is something, isn't it?

Abby Sunderland - Update

Boats head to teen sailor drifting in Indian Ocean
By ROD McGUIRK, Associated Press Writer Rod Mcguirk, Associated Press Writer – 1 hr 23 mins ago

CANBERRA, Australia – A 16-year-old California girl who was feared lost at sea while sailing solo around the world has been found alive and well, adrift in the southern Indian Ocean as rescue boats head toward her damaged yacht, officials said.

After a tense 20 hours of silence, a search plane launched from Australia's west coast made radio contact with Abby Sunderland on Friday in the frigid southern seas where her boat was repeatedly knocked down by huge waves and she lost satellite phone contact.

The boat's mast was broken — ruining satellite phone reception — and was dragging with the sail in the ocean, said search coordinator Mick Kinley, acting chief of the Australia Maritime Safety Authority that chartered a commerical jet for the search.

But the keel was intact, the yacht was not taking on water and Abby was equipped for the conditions, he said.

"The aircraft (crew) spoke to her. They told her help was on the way and she sounds like she's in good health," Kinley told reporters in Canberra.

"She's going to hang in there until a vessel can get to her," probably on Saturday, he said.

*At least she's safe.  Wonder IF she will continue on, or pack it in?  You have to give her credit, to do something as large as this and as young as she is.

To Tow or Toe, that is the question...

I would like to thank my dear friend, Sharon for clearing up this ongoing debate of:  It's TOW head - not toe.

It's 'tow head' - 'tow' being derived from an older German word for flax or straw. Essentially it means having hair the color of straw (light yellow).

This is a US phrase and the reference to is to 'tow', which is the light-colored fiber of flax, hemp, or jute. 'Tow-headed' is having tousled blond hair. This dates back to the19th century.
